I am honored to say that my art work has been selected to be featured at the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City. I have also been selected to become a member of this prestigious gallery with a rich heritage in traditional contemporary realism and plein air painting. The gallery was founded in 1871 in Greenwich Village and has show cased some of our nations greatest artist that include Howard Pyle, N.C.Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, William Merritt Chase, Frederick Church, Daniel Graves and Jacob Collins.

Salmagundi fosters artists and creates a welcoming environment for them to grow and develop their work. It is one of the oldest art organizations in the country and is a Museum to over 1500 art works. The collection consists of pieces of art conveying the real spirit and magic of the American Culture.

Here are a couple of links to their website if you would like to read more information about the gallery.

Art Lecture And The Omaha Film Festival

This week and weekend was packed with lectures, art shows, and the Omaha Film Festival. I have to give a shout out to Jason Levering, Marc Longbrake and Jeremy Decker for putting on the film festival, which had a record-breaking attendance this year! Our movie “Black Luck” was sold out!

I also had the pleasure of working with Chuck Richard’s Iowa State University advanced Sequential Narrative and Storytelling class. It was a great group of artist who really had a nice grasp on visual storytelling.

I gave a lecture and slide presentation on my experience in and out of the movie and comic concept art world as well as the publishing industry.  I gave insight on how to build up storyboarding skills and push ideas as far as an artist can.

The students had great question and I gave them as much professional advice, coaching, training, and teaching expertise in Storyboarding as I could pack into a 3-hour class. I am looking forward to seeing their final completed boards and concepts.

Concept and storyboard artist have to be skilled in so many different areas …visual artist, cinematographer, medical illustrator, landscape painter, perspective/cityscapes, editor, writer, world building, etc. I have to say that ISU has some amazingly talented artist who will be in the movie and comic business in no time at all.

Congrats again to all the artist that I talked to on their storyboards and I am looking forward to seeing the finished results at the end of the semester.

Also for those who follow Instagram, I am now posting images and works in progress on my account. You can follow it at…

More Art Work for Easton Press

I signed the signature sheets for the upcoming Easton Press limited edition release of the O.Henry stories. The quality of the printing on this edition is beautiful. Easton Press always takes its time to match each one of my drawings and paintings which I appreciate as an artist. I have attached a few pictures of the signature sheets and some more interior art drawings and paintings that will be in this edition. The hand holding the ring with the archer in the shadows just to the right of the ring is from the story "Mammon and the Archer”.

"Mammon and the Archer," is considered to be one of O. Henry's best stories published in 1906. It depicts a rich entrepreneur, Anthony Rockwall, who does not belong to the New York wealthy elite but whose son is trying to marry one of the aristocratic daughters of the elite.
The theme of this story is built on the eternal opposition between money and love. The Title of this story is represented by wealth (money – old Anthony) and love (young Richard). O.Henry uses a mix of emotional character arcs entwined with a mesmerizing plot twist. Mammon is the God of riches and the symbol of wealth, The Archer is a symbol of love.
O. Henry’s gift in writing for me is his vivid portrayal of the deep humanity of his characters. The real charm of O. Henry's tales lies not only in the twisted endings, but also in the reversal reflected from the twist ending of his characters' humanity.
I will post more paintings soon.
